Will Florida mandate STD vaccination for middle school girls? House Bill #561 and Senate Bill #660 if passed will require eleven and twelve year old girls to be vaccinated for the human papillomavirus (HPV) before starting the 2008 school year. This may sound like many other mandated vaccinations however; other vaccinations are to prevent the spread of disease to school students in a classroom setting. The difference between HPV and measles, mumps, etc. is that the human papillomavirus is transmitted via sexual contact. This mandatory vaccination will undermine abstinence education programs in the state of Florida. Will Florida mandate that young girls be vaccinated for this STD or will they leave this in the rightful hands of the daughter's parents? Please call your State Representative and State Senator and ask them not to make this a mandatory vaccination but rather a vaccination that children and parents can simply choose.
