TEN FULFILLED PROPHECIES

One of the reasons I believe the Bible to be the verbally inspired Word of God is its record of fulfilled prophecy. Prophecy is pre-written history, describing events before they occur. True prophecy is 100% accurate. It indicates foreknowledge on the part of the prophet. Many prophecies were given when the circumstances that existed in the world made it seem unlikely, even absurd to make those sorts of predictions. Following is a list of ten prophecies given in the Holy Bible that have already been fulfilled. Note the time when the prophecy was given and the time in which it actually came to pass.

I- The fall of Jerusalem was predicted around 604 BC (read Jeremiah 25:1-14) and Nebuchadnezzar's army destroyed the city in 586 BC.

II- The Babylonian captivity (Jeremiah 20:4; 25:11-12); was predicted to last seventy years. If we compute from 605 B     il the return to Jerusalem in 535 BC we have a seventy year period, but the actual prophecy was given before any of the citizens of Judah were taken captive.

III- The predicted fall of Babylon even while it was a major world empire in Jeremiah 25:12-13; Jeremiah 51:49.

IV- The birth of Christ was prophesied by Isaiah and Micah in the 8th century BC (Isaiah 9:6; Micah 5:2)

V- The inhospitable treatment and rejection of Christ was prophesied in Isaiah 53 in the 8th century BC and fulfilled in the 1st century AD.

VI- The resurrection of Christ was also predicted by Isaiah in the 8th century (Isaiah 53:10b, 11) and by Christ HIMSELF in the Gospels. HE rose from the dead three days following HIS crucifixion.

VII- The destruction of the second temple was prophesied by Christ in AD 30 and actually occurred in AD 70.

VIII- Cyrus named as the king who would grant the Jews freedom from Babylonian captivity (Isaiah 44:28.) Bible commentator Albert Barnes wrote concerning this prophecy:

"He began his reign about 550 BC, and this prophecy was therefore delivered not far from a hundred and fifty years before he ascended the throne. None but God himself, or he whom God inspired, could have mentioned so long before, the name of him who should deliver the Jewish people from  ; and if this was delivered, therefore, by Isaiah, it proves that he was under divine inspiration."

IX- The prophecy that Israel would once again become a nation after the dispersion (Jeremiah 31:10, 32:27, Ezekiel 34:13, 37:21 {sixth century BC}) was fulfilled with the establishment of the modern state of Israel in 1948.

X- The Bible prophesied the condition of the world in the "last days." (Matthew 24:4-8, 2Timothy 3:1-7, 3:13, 2Peter 3:3-4) These were all recorded in the 1st century AD and accurately describe the 21st century society that is headed for Divine Judgment.

These are just ten of the hundreds of remarkable prophecies that have already been fulfilled in history. A book that is this powerful and accurate deserves the respect of every person on the planet. The Author must be feared and worshipped. In the same way that the fulfilled prophecies are now part of history, the prophecies that are yet to be fulfilled will eventually be upon us. The catching away of the true church, the appearance of the Man of Sin, the False Prophet, the Great Tribulation, demonic phenomena, world wars, plagues, and the final judgment will all be fulfilled.

Is your heart right with GOD? If it is not, today may be your last day to receive salvation, trust Jesus Christ as Savior before your allotted time expires and you die in your sins.
